Amazon extends return policy for 2025 holiday season

Amazon extends return policy for 2025 holiday season

Amazon is offering shoppers more time to make returns during the 2025 holiday season with an extended return policy now in effect. The updated policy provides added flexibility for customers seeking to return or exchange items post-holidays.

Under this temporary extension, most products purchased between Friday, Nov. 1, and Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, can be returned through Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. This gives customers nearly an additional month to return unwanted or unsuitable gifts.

However, there are exceptions. Most Apple-branded products are not eligible for the full extension and must be returned by Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, to qualify for a refund or replacement.

In a statement, Amazon emphasized its commitment to providing a smooth shopping experience: "Easy shopping, simple returns - that's our promise. At Amazon, we're committed to making your shopping experience as seamless and worry-free as possible. We understand that there may be times when a purchase may not meet your expectations or your needs might change. When that happens, we make completing a return simple and convenient."

Standard Return Process Remains in Place

Generally, Amazon’s policy allows customers 30 days from the date of delivery to initiate a return, as long as the item is still in its original or unused condition. For the holiday season, the extended policy ensures that customers have extra time to handle returns after the busy gift-giving period.

Refunds are issued after the item is received and its eligibility is confirmed. The time frame for refunds varies depending on the payment method. For example, refunds to Amazon gift cards may take as little as two to three hours, while debit card refunds can take up to 10 business days. Refunds to prepaid credit cards might require as long as 30 days.

Items Excluded from Returns

Certain products are not eligible for return, including perishables, customized goods, some digital items, and those marked as "Final Sale." Amazon advises customers to reach out to Customer Service in cases where a non-returnable item arrives damaged or does not match its description.

How to Start a Return

To initiate a return, customers can visit their Order History on Amazon’s website, select the relevant item, and choose the "Return Items" option. Most returns are free of charge and can be dropped off at more than 8,000 locations nationwide. In many cases, customers do not need a box or label, further simplifying the process.

By extending its return window, Amazon continues to aim for a hassle-free shopping experience, especially during the holiday season. The updated policy ensures more convenience for customers navigating the busy end-of-year period.
